Until now. In a recent interview, Tina Fey opened up about being the woman behind the country’s favorite imitation, as well as what she’s going to do if Sarah Palin becomes the vice president. Hint: It doesn’t involve throwing a “Congratulations Sarah Palin!” victory party.
Speaking to TV Guide, Tina Fey said, “Election time is always good for [SNL] and this is a bonkers election. And that lady is a media star. She is a fascinating person, she's very likeable. She's fun to play, and the two bits with Amy [Poehler], that was super fun." Amy Poehler has been on hand to play both Hillary Clinton and Katie Couric in Palin sketches.
As for how long she’ll keep returning to "Saturday Night Live" to do the Palin impression that has taken the nation by storm, Fey explains, "We're gonna take it week by week. If she wins, I'm done. I can't do that for four years. And by 'I'm done,' I mean I'm leaving Earth.” So, who do you think Tina Fey is voting for? It’s a tough one.
It’s been reported that Sarah Palin is considering doing an appearance on "SNL" in order to humorously hit back at Tina Fey. But considering the fact that Fey has now stated that she will leave the planet should Palin become vice president, we can’t imagine the backstage area being filled with warm and funny feelings should Palin decide to do the show. If it’s a toss-up between having Palin play Palin or having Fey play her, we vote for sticking with Fey. Let Sarah Palin have CNN--when we turn on "SNL" we’ll take satire over the real deal any day.
